“Sonny has found life in kennels stressful and is now starting to bond with team members. He needs a little bit of time to get to know people and once he does, he is trusting, affectionate and incredibly playful. He is responsive and although his loose lead walking is something we’re working on, he doesn’t really pull on the lead, just walks ahead. He has met a number of different people and is happy, as long as he’s given space. He’s nervous when there are too many people in close proximity and barks, but does respond immediately when he’s called and calmly walks away. Around the kennel environment he is unsettled and this week we took him to a centre where he could run off-lead. He was unsure at first and stayed close by, but then enjoyed some freedom, but came when called and preferred to run around with me rather than play or run around on his own. Sonny has definitely had previous training, but we do not know his background as he came through the local pound. At a (very) rough guess, we think he might be 4/5 years old, but we’re hoping to get a more accurate guess from the vet in the coming days. He isn’t reacting at all to the dogs in the kennels as we walk past them and has happily walked past other dogs as we have walked around the local area. We do not know what he is like in a home environment, off-lead with dogs or with children. We are unable to test these accurately in the current location and are very keen to find Sonny an experienced GSD foster home / permanent home.”
