*****DOG OF THE DAY****
***PLEASE SHARE BRUCE AND LET'S GET HIM A HOME***

#Cornwall

Meet Bruce who is a 2 year neutered male. Vaccinated and microchipped, Bruce came into the kennels as his owners did not have the experience he needed.

A loyal lad, but he can be over protective of his people and rather than deal with the issue his owners just stopped taking him out. Bruce responds very well to training however, so will thrive in an experienced and confident home.

He loves cuddles and attention but take your eye off the ball and a little rascal will appear. OK with other dogs but will bully unless told no. Bruce needs his training continued on boundaries and socialisation but could turn out to be a super dog.

Had some shocking news today that the handsome Shay has gone to Rainbow Bridge. Auntie Jan rang to say he was not right this morning but had his breakfast as normal. Within half an hour he had collapsed with blood pouring out of his bottom. They rushed him to the vets who suspected it was a mass on his liver/spleen which had ruptured. It would have been unfair to do anything other than let him go in Uncle Chris' arms. So sorry Shay. X ... See MoreSee Less

Hello humans! HONEY here! Day 6 in my foster home. Another 4 days and I will be going back to the kennels. I really don't want to as I like being in a house and having my own lovely comfy bed and lots of cuddles and kisses but I have been told I can't stay here longer than 10 days. I don't know why nobody has shown any interest in me but I thought I would let my foster Mum tell you what a good girl I have been in her own words. Bye for now as I am going to have a snooze after my yummy din dins. Love and licks. PS. Foster Mum and Dad have discovered I am a food thief hee hee! Honey

Hi folks! What can I say other than this girl has amazed me with her eagerness to learn and please and her ability to adjust to the home environment in a span of just 6 days. Considering the physical and mental state she was found in by GSRE and 4 months in kennels thereafter I was expecting her first foray in a home environment with all its challenges to be a testing time for her as well as for us. But I have been gobsmacked at how easy she has made it for us. And it truly humbles me when dogs like her who have been dealt such a cruel hand by humans decide to trust us again with their lives.

Anyway, moving on to what our Honey Bunny has been up to the last 3 days. Well for starters, she hasn't barked! Yes you heard that right! She hasn't barked at anything or anybody other than done some baby woofs in her sleep the last couple of days which are ever so funny to hear! I do hope she is having happy dreams! I might try and record it if I can!

She has been out for many walks in busy and not busy environments. In parks and on busy roads. On a regular lead and a flexi lead (retractable) with no aids like a halti or dogmatic or anything like that because this girl walks like a dream. She has passed and has been passed by children on bikes, grown ups on bikes, joggers male and female, dogs of all sizes, groups of young men, groups of children and nothing has fazed her. She has passed a couple of reactive dogs and pulled towards them a little but on being told firmly to "leave" by me has listened and walked on.

She stands behind a door patiently when put in a separate room and told to stay. No scratching the door, jumping up or barking to be let in.

She ignores the hoover.

She has received visitors (adults so far) without any guarding or protection issues in the home.

She has been to meet the vet (Maria) twice now to see how she reacts. As she had an ear infection she was a little sensitive about her left ear being touched on the first visit hence didn't like Maria examining it and told her so. But when she went for a follow up visit today she let her ear be checked without grumbling. I muzzled her as a precaution. But she was such a good girl! There was a reactive black lab at reception who did a half lunge and barked at her and all she did was stiffen and watch when I said "leave." She gave kisses to everyone at the reception and said hello and gave a kiss to a gentleman who came in to collect something. Since she seems to be a little wary of men I can only surmise she feels safer around them now. I have to thank her Uncle Stuart when he visited with Auntie Dionne yesterday and also to Uncle Gary who visited today. Thank you all for helping me to get to know her better by visiting.

Now whilst Honey Bunny is still asleep let me tell you a little about the food thief! She is a naughty pup who loves food and will steal if anything is left out unsupervised. We think a lot of that behaviour may possibly come from her previous circumstances and also being in kennels where she hasn't had any temptation to deal with. She is being taught food manners and that the food belongs to us not her and she can have it only on our terms. And she is starting to understand. However these things take time and patience and whoever adopts this friendly girlie needs to put in that time. Not much to ask considering she seems to be perfect in every other way.

Will there be more I learn about her in the next 4 days? I don't know. Other than the fact that she will need guidance and boundaries like any Shepherd (and I am firm as regards establishing them) she has outdone herself so far. I just hope she finds a home that is deserving of her.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
