Luke

LukeGSD_result

Luke is currently residing with another non-breed specific charity who have reached out to GSRE for assistance. This is what they say about him.

Luke was on a waiting list for rehoming, however, he ended up as a stray and found himself in rescue. A brief history from his previous owner states that he is a wonderful boy who is sociable with people and younger children. He is also sociable around other dogs.

Luke is a handsome black, long coated GSD male who is 6 years old.

When he arrived into rescue, he had infected and inflamed ears and his skin was quite sore. After spending time with him and with some training, he happily has his ear drops and cleaning fluid applied daily without any issues. He is now looking and feeling so much better. He will be neutered soon as well as having a small wart on his eyelid removed.

Luke arrived into rescue in a bit of a state and had an invasive vet exam quite early on. Luke, having not been seen by a vet before, has now developed quite a negative association with them. Unfortunately, Luke did nip a vet after being examined, leaving a small wound. The charity is working on rebuilding his trust around vets by taking him there regularly to get treats with no veterinary treatment taking place and he is doing well. Luke is muzzle trained and wears one whilst at the vets.

Initially, Luke took to being in a kennel quite well, however, his stress increased which is starting to affect his behaviour. He has reacted to a couple of unfamiliar people whilst in rescue by lunging and showing his teeth at them when coming out of his kennel. He has a group of staff/volunteers happy to walk him with no issues and he is positively introduced to new people to build his friendship group.

Luke mixes with a range of other dogs at the rescue and he is their go-to dog when introducing other dogs. Luke displays calm and sociable interactions with other dogs although he doesn’t want to play. He is happy going out on walks with other dogs and interacts with them nicely. There have not been any issues with Luke around other dogs and so feel he could potentially live with another dog.

He is a wonderful, sociable, loving boy with so much to offer. He is very clever, smart and super trainable. He will do well with people who are experienced with the breed.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
