We were asked by another rescue if we could take in this handsome lad, River. He had been picked up as a stray and was not chipped. Below is a summary of their assessment:
A good session with River. I would say he is younger than 4 and have him more at 2 yrs old re behaviour and physical condition. A lot of his behaviour would indicate he has been a yard/guard dog e.g. quite independent in an open space and will pace and do border patrols. Plays with toys independently but isn’t sure how to play with someone. His dog reactivity is quite low level for a GSD, His barking here was an alert bark to say something is there rather than aggressive/defensive. He calmed during our session and learnt that it was worth checking back in for pate and did some nice engage disengage work with a volunteer and Welfare Supervisor when he was on lead and Freya (Dog) in the enclosure. When off lead and George (Dog) in the enclosure he started to mirror cut of signals. He has high movement drive which is typical but this can be channelled into appropriate play and training. A bright young man who is an extremely good looking GSD.”
So River has been aged as being born February 2022 but he may, and probably is younger. He is fully vaccinated and neutered. No young children as we do not know his history. Doing fine with the other dogs at the kennels but does need further assessment.
This lovely lad should fit into most homes experienced with the breed who can give him an active and stimulating life.
