Arthur is available for adoption through GSRE – this is what his current owner says about him.

Arthur is a 7-year-old, male, semi/long haired, black and tan German Shepherd. He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and worm/flea treated. He has no known food allergies but currently eats grain free mix of wet and dry as normal food can upset his stomach. He has no disclosed medical issues.

He has lived in his current home since being adopted from a rescue at 12 weeks old. He is ok at the vets (not aggressive) but needs a little bribery to get him into the examination room.

Arthur is being rehomed through GSRE as his current owner has work commitments and the family member who used to care for him during that time has had a recent medical diagnosis which now means they are unable to.

Arthur is good with children of all ages. He is good with dogs and currently lives with two others. He is friendly when he sees other dogs when out walking and just wants to play. His reaction to cats and livestock is unknown. He has never shown any aggression towards anyone. He will bark (not excessively) when somebody comes to the home if he does not know them but then stops when people enter the home. He does not show any possessive tendencies over food or toys.

He travels well in the car but does not sit down. He lives indoors and is fully housetrained. He can pull when walked on a lead but this is described as manageable by his current owner. He is happy when walking off-lead and will walk close to the person walking him. He has a recall but will sometimes ignore it if he wants to go and see another dog to play. He is said to know his basic commands including sit, paw and lie down.

During the time the GSRE assessor spent with Arthur, this is what they said about him.
When the assessor approached the property, Arthur was behind the gate with two other dogs and barked (not aggressively). When the assessor entered through the gate, he was friendly, didn’t jump up and just wanted to be fussed. When the assessor sat down in the home, Arthur laid down calmly and didn’t bother anybody whilst paperwork was completed.

Arthur responded well to treats, giving his paw and taking them very gently. He has a lovely shiny coat and is well groomed and looked after. There were children at the home (inc. a baby) which did not seem to phase him at all.

Arthur was a pleasure to meet, he was so friendly and placid. He loved being fussed and stroked and also giving out kisses.

Arthur has been adopted.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
