Update from Bear’s temporary foster parents:
Bear has been with us for two weeks now and already we are seeing a huge improvement in him. He is (mostly) well behaved in the house, not destructive with any furniture and happy to play with his ball or favourite chew. However, we have had to be strict with him about mouthing and jumping up, as he can quickly get himself very overexcited! There is no malice in him whatsoever, he just wants to play, and it’s sometimes easy to forget that he is just a giant puppy. We find that a quick 5 minute ‘time out’ in a different room away from us usually does the trick and he calms down right away.
Outside of the house Bear walks really nicely on his halti and a front-clip harness, as long as there are no other dogs around to distract him. He was reactive towards all dogs to begin with, but even over just two weeks we have noticed that if we can create some distance between us and the other dogs, he is happy to just watch them go by without reacting (as long as they aren’t barking at him first!)
We have also taken Bear to a secure field in our van and he travelled absolutely fine.
All in all, Bear will make a gorgeous companion with a little bit more training and strong boundaries setting straight away. All he wants is love, his ball and Bear hugs.

This stunning lad is Bear who is only 16 months old, not neutered due to his age but is microchipped, fully vaccinated, flea treated and wormed.

Bear is a big lad and has had some basic training, he does jump up and mouth when playing but hasn’t shown any aggression at all just an over excited pup.

His owner sadly passed away and the elderly parents were unable to keep him. He did stay with them and their dog for a week but was overbearing so ideally needs to be the only dog.

(we will be working on his socialisation so if there’s a chance he could live with another dog his profile will be updated) He wasn’t keen on the journey to our kennels and is reluctant to get in any cars – something else we are working on.

Sadly Bear will be coming back into rescue as his home has not worked out.

Bear needs some boundaries putting in place as he has been allowed too much free rein in his home of late and he now needs to be told how he should behave.

He has been allowed to take charge with one person who has not stepped in and stopped him and it is now untenable for them to carry on.

Bear is a big pup who just needs to be told no and mean it, he will learn very quickly and give the right owner a fabulous dog.

Bear has now been adopted.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
