BEING ADVERTISED ON BEHALF OF ANOTHER RESCUE
Coco Bella is a 3 year, 9-month-old German Shepherd described as an intelligent, high-energy, and deeply affectionate “bright spark”. While she has required intensive behavioural support during her time at the centre, she has proven to be a “total pleaser” who is highly motivated by food and tennis balls.
Personality and Affection
- Loving Nature: Once a bond is formed, Coco Bella is incredibly sweet and will “melt” into handlers for cuddles and “body leans”.
- High Energy: She is a “brainy but bouncy” adventure pup who is “always on the go” and requires significant physical and mental enrichment to stay settled.
- Excitability: Because she is a “big girl who forgets her size,” her enthusiasm can sometimes lead to accidental headbutts or jumping.
Socialization and Compatibility
- Other Dogs: She is currently recommended to be the only dog in the home while she continues to build confidence. Historically, she showed severe reactivity (barking, lunging, and spinning) toward other dogs at a distance, including a redirection incident where she grabbed a handler’s ankle. However, she has made “massive improvements,” recently completing group sessions with multiple dogs while remaining mostly neutral.
- Cats: Due to a high prey and chase drive, she requires a cat-free home.
- Children: She is suitable for a home with dog-savvy teenagers (aged 13+) who can manage her bounciness.
Training and Skills
- Obedience: Coco Bella is a “professional student” who has mastered several commands, including “Come,” “Sit,” “Down,” “Place,” “Stay,” and “Focus”.
- Muzzle Training: She is fully muzzle-trained and wears it comfortably during public walks.
- Travel and Enrichment: She is a “star traveller” who is calm in a van. She also enjoys “enriching swim times” and has been described as an “absolute favourite” with volunteers.
Ideal Home Requirements
- Infrastructure: A secure garden with at least 6-foot fencing is essential.
- Company: She is making progress with her “home alone” training and can be left for short periods, but she initially needs someone around most of the time.
- Behavioural Support: Her new family will receive a training session with a behaviorist to ensure her progress with dog reactivity remains consistent.
