Dexter is a GSD cross Mali who will be 1 on Christmas Day! He is microchipped, neutered and we are told fully vaccinated. He has been in his home since 8 weeks and is sadly being rehomed as he has got very large and his mum struggles with him when out as he can be selective with other dogs and she is also struggling to give him the time he deserves.

Dexter is great with children and lives with 3 other dogs but needs careful introductions outside of the home. He also lives with 11 cats!! Dexter is actually very relaxed and chilled in the home and friendly with everybody he meets. Used to being left with no issues.

He is good on lead and wears a harness and halti but recall still needs work. Basic commands. Housetrained but being young, still paces when he wants to go out. No issues over food or toys and is crate trained.

“Dexter is a lovely lad. He is treat and food orientated. Very friendly. Good with the other dogs in the home. Playful but takes a telling off well, even from the tea cup chihuahua. Used to children. Respectful. Has good manners. Did jump up a few times but listened to owner’s command for ‘down’ and ‘off’. Very puppy like in behaviour. Crated with Spaniel with no issues. Very chilled and relaxed in the home. Definitely has an off switch.

We walked Dexter. He was good on the lead, paying attention. He is reactive to dogs outside the home, lunging and barking. Very much seemed like excitement/frustration, rather than aggression. However he is strong with owner struggling to control him around her youngest who gets scared.

Dexter is in good condition. He will make a lovely pet with a bit of one to one training and managed socialisation. His owner has shaped Dexter wonderfully in their home environment and he is very receptive and focused on her outside of the home. He’s a lovely lad!”

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
