Duke (4)

Duke is 2 years old. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and his been with his owner since a pup. He is fine around children of about 8 upwards but not had any interaction with children any younger. We are told he is good with other dogs and also cats in the home. He does have prey drive but is not aggressive.

Duke does show protection of his female owner when out walking, usually men, and bark and sometimes nip at new people and will jump out. Over excitement of a young dog that still needs some boundaries. Duke has recall and basic commands but does need further lead work as he does pull due to excitement. No issues over food or toys.

Duke is being rehomed due to circumstances having changed for medical reasons meaning he is being left alone for too long and not getting the attention he deserves. This is what our volunteer had to say about him:

“Duke is treat orientated, good weight and nice coat. Wary of visitors in the house. Once released from kitchen gate he was calm when assessor had treat in hand and sat and lay down upon instruction. However when assessor did not have treat he jumped up, barked and nipped hard.

Duke is a very loved and looked after but needs mental stimulation and frequent walks where he can run and let out excess energy.”

In a GSD experienced home this lad would go far.

Duke was taken into foster with a view to adopt in a home that had cats. Unfortunately, he was not introduced to the cats correctly and became obsessed over them.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
