We were contacted by a rescue contact and were asked to help this poor young lad who we have called Freddie. He is only about 4 months of age and has spent most of his short life shut in a cage and underfed! This is the story, and I mean story we were told:

“The backstory they got from the old owners was questionable but 🤷🏼‍♀️ they just wanted the dog out of there so didn’t push it. He was bought by a teenage boy, who did not tell his parents because he knew they didn’t want a dog.He hid the dog for weeks in a crate somewhere (not sure of the living arrangement). The parents did not know he had a puppy. He went out one day, got into an accident and ended up in a coma or was unconscious for a period. When he woke up after said accident, he told his parents about the puppy. They went to the puppy and found him but by that time he was in this condition.”

It appears the reality is that the owners had 2 other large dogs that picked on the poor pup so they just shut him away in a cage! His front legs are being monitored as it is as if he has no support or strength in his ankle joints. He is currently on lots of small feeds a day to build his weight up, and lots of short lead walks to build up his muscles and tendons whilst not letting him cause any further damage. The vet is hopeful he will grow out of this now he is getting a proper diet and exercise.

Freddie will be looking for a very special home.

Freddie, now called Beau, has been adopted by his foster home.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
