German Shepherd Rescue and Rehoming

German Shepherd Rescue Elite (GSRE) has been formed with the aim of rescuing, re-homing German Shepherd Dogs and educating people on the breed. GSRE is backed up by a team of unpaid volunteers who strive to aid and promote responsible ownership of the breed.

GSRE’s aim is to be the prevention and not always the cure, through offering education on the lovely breed and how to look after these amazingly intelligent and energetic dogs. We not only look to re-home dogs but keep them in their original homes by offering training and behaviour advice.

Through our volunteers and website we want to inform people on all aspects of dog ownership before you decide to take the plunge especially as German Shepherd Dogs are a large working breed and are not suitable for everyone.

GSRE is a registered charity that works alongside many other reputable rescues which means that through team work and pulling together we can help even more dogs in need. To assist in this we are now a Full Member of the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) who promote best practice in animal welfare, and a member of the EU Dog and Cat Alliance who call for EU action to build a better Europe for dogs and cats.

We are a proactive charity with a common goal; the welfare of animals.

Please Help a German Shepherd

Adopt a GSD

Please be sure to read our guide to adoption and adopting a GSRE dog before considering adopting a German Shepherd.

Foster a GSD

We’re always looking for foster homes, even if you can only spare time at a weekend to walk or look after our kennel dogs.

Volunteer for GSRE

Volunteers are what makes our rescue, if you care about the breed and want to make a difference we’d love to hear from you.

Please Donate

Any money donated goes directly to the dogs we help, so please give whatever amount you can.

This happy young girl is Leila who is just 10 months old. She is vaccinated and microchipped but not yet spayed as she has not yet had a season. Not a full GSD.
Leila has lived with children with the youngest being 4 years old, and 3 other dogs. She is fine around horses as well. Friendly and excitable with people, she likes her toys and food with no issues.
Leila was handed in to another rescue because she was too boisterous, but being a baby still she has just lacked training and boundaries.
A lovely addition to an experienced home that can give her the training and exercise she needs.

So we have now had all the results back from our brave boys tests. Everything is absolutely fine! 🙏 The hospital has now made a diagnosis of Idiopathic Epilepsy. This apparently means there is no cause or reason for Link's fits. Whilst this is positive, I am also a bit worried as I find it difficult to understand a fit with no cause. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of or experienced this? Link had another fit last night and it is so hard and distressing to watch xx ... See MoreSee Less

Carolyn BurlisonI'm sorry I haven't heard of that. But really pleased things are more positive than you thought. Could stress cause fits? How is he getting on with the cats now?

Pamela InsonHi x this may/not be helpful, but I am also on a Belgian site, and someone on there has a Terv that also has random fits, his vet said it can be brought on by over exercise/excitement/stress etc. His dog is doing fine and will be fine, just when the randomness hits, its upsetting for both dog and owner xxx

Just look at me out and about in town!!

Me and my friends in kennels love having volunteers come to see us, to have a play or take us out. Sometimes we just need someone to take us to the vets! It would be lovely if we had a few more fab vollies to share our fun with.
Do you live in South Lincolnshire? How about joining us?

Well, I got soaked walking indy round Harpenden Common this afternoon but she was delighted with all the new puddles to wallow in and took full advantage! House is now as wet as I am. I feel a bit mean as I haven't told her about the lovely big ponds on the common, but I know what would happen if she found them lol. ... See MoreSee Less

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
