German Shepherd Rescue and Rehoming

German Shepherd Rescue Elite (GSRE) has been formed with the aim of rescuing, re-homing German Shepherd Dogs and educating people on the breed. GSRE is backed up by a team of unpaid volunteers who strive to aid and promote responsible ownership of the breed.

GSRE’s aim is to be the prevention and not always the cure, through offering education on the lovely breed and how to look after these amazingly intelligent and energetic dogs. We not only look to re-home dogs but keep them in their original homes by offering training and behaviour advice.

Through our volunteers and website we want to inform people on all aspects of dog ownership before you decide to take the plunge especially as German Shepherd Dogs are a large working breed and are not suitable for everyone.

GSRE is a registered charity that works alongside many other reputable rescues which means that through team work and pulling together we can help even more dogs in need. To assist in this we are now a Full Member of the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) who promote best practice in animal welfare, and a member of the EU Dog and Cat Alliance who call for EU action to build a better Europe for dogs and cats.

We are a proactive charity with a common goal; the welfare of animals.

Please Help a German Shepherd

Adopt a GSD

Please be sure to read our guide to adoption and adopting a GSRE dog before considering adopting a German Shepherd.

Foster a GSD

We’re always looking for foster homes, even if you can only spare time at a weekend to walk or look after our kennel dogs.

Volunteer for GSRE

Volunteers are what makes our rescue, if you care about the breed and want to make a difference we’d love to hear from you.

Please Donate

Any money donated goes directly to the dogs we help, so please give whatever amount you can.

Lottie PearsonIt is getting so hard to get people to help to raise funds to care for our dogs. If people could do one day, even a few hours A YEAR it would be great. Not much to ask?!

I wouldn't normal show pictures of my boudoir , especially before domestic goddess cleaning on a Saturday BUT foster SUMMER was so funny I couldn't resist!

THIS DOG COMES WITH A WARNING!!!!

If you are tired and want to sleep past 7am at the weekend FORGET IT if you are her chosen person 😂

Summers personality is really blossoming now she's confident in our home. She's fun, playful and very cheeky😍

She is now looking for a retirement pad of her own.

Summer has a wish list please🙏🏼

She wants to be the only Princess in the house please no other dogs (at this stage)or cats. She can be left now for up to three hours uncrated and she is fine; but ideally you would be home most of the time. She loves to play and so a nice size garden please... especially as she doesn't really want to go out into the big scary world all that much.

In return you get a loving sweet girl with bags of personality. She's great at office work but does get tired and falls sleep on the job. 😂 She is very good at supervising you when you cook but doesn't interfere. She loves little people and is very gentle with them as long as they respect her....

Basically she's just amazing 😍😍

Please share and help me get this little lady the home she deserves...🙏🏼

Thank you x

Lin PotterGlad she is ok. How great to see you have used an inflatable collar instead of those awful cones. They are so old fashioned I don't know why the vets still use them. It's not as though they are cheap. I used a body suit for my girl and that worked fine although I did have to undo it whenever she wanted the toilet.

I've just finished watching the series 10 puppies and us. Some of the owners made me cringe with their lack of knowledge of puppies and how to train them. I think every prospective new dog owner should be made to watch it. Hopefully it might reduce the number of unwanted and damaged pups that end up in rescues. ... See MoreSee Less

**** Your Rescue Needs You ****

Take a look at these dogs, i mean a proper look and share this post.

First we have Snoop, who sadly never made it, she was so malnourished all her bones could be seen and sadly after just 24 hours in the care of GSRE she crossed the bridge due a massive tumour in her stomach.

Next we have Splinter, a bag of bones if ever there was one, bad skin and a baldy coat who arrived just in time to lodge at Chez Clarke and start the long road to recovery.

Then we have Gladys, you all remember Gladys, the walking skeleton that was thrown out with the rubbish, she went to recuperate at Chez Stubbs and is now thriving in her forever home.

These are the dogs your donations helps, these are the dogs that need the extra care, food and love, these are the dogs that without GSRE would not have made it and those that don't cross the bridge in the arms of a volunteer knowing they were loved for a short time at the end.

These dogs and the 40 + in kennels are asking you to spare a £1

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
