Hunter

Hunter is available for adoption through GSRE – this is what his current owner says about him.

Hunter is a 14-month-old, male, semi haired, black, tan and white German Shepherd cross Malamute. He is not currently neutered but is microchipped. He has no known food allergies and no disclosed medical issues. He currently eats Tails dry and wet food.
Hunter is being rehomed through GSRE as his current owners do not feel they are the right household for him. They do not have enough time or experience to give him in relation to exercise, stimulation and ongoing training. Hunter has been training on a one-to-one basis with his owner and a dog trainer. The trainer believes that Hunter will be better placed within an experienced home who can offer him the exercise he needs or give him a job to do.

Hunter has never been around children, cats or livestock so his reaction towards them is unknown. He is selective with other dogs, preferring bitches at present. He is currently living with another dog (puppy) but they are kept separate (unknown why). He is currently being left alone for 4-5 hours and will go out with a dog walker. He settles down when travelling in a car.

Hunter has never shown aggression or bitten anybody but he is nervous of visitors and people he doesn’t know. He does not like the post-person and when in the home he will bark at people he sees through the window but stops when corrected. He will jump up at visitors but will settle down after making friends with them.

Hunter has lived in his current home since he was bought from a private breeder at 8 weeks old. He lives indoors and is housetrained. He is described as being strong on the lead but will settle after 10 minutes. He has a selective recall, depending on the situation and knows sit, down, paw and off (to get off sofa etc.). He is toy and treat focused and does not show any possessive tendencies over either.

During the time the GSRE assessor spent with Hunter, this is what they said about him.
Hunter is a typical German Shepherd x Malamute of his age 1 year 2 months. He is a lovely cuddly large dog who is not yet fully grown.

Hunter is nervous with new visitors and people he has not met before. He will jump up too. Once Hunter gets to know people, he is fine. He sat by the assessor’s feet while completing paper work and loved a fuss. Hunter was very curious and once trust was established, he was brilliant and enjoyed being stroked and handled.

Hunter is walked with a collar and lead he is very strong on lead. He is interested in dogs walking on the other side of the road. He’s not neutered so gets on better with bitches, Hunter said hello to a little dog while out and he was fine.

Hunter would benefit from socializing, routine and plenty of walks. Someone that has the time to bring on his training and give him stimulation. He has so much potential.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
