We were alerted to this lovely little girl needing a new home by another rescue and could not say no. Katana was 3 in September. She is microchipped and vaccinations are now up to date and she is also now spayed.

Katana was initially meant to be a support dog for the daughter however having been advised she would be suitable, and not knowing the breed, they realise they cannot give her the exercise and stimulation a dog of this age craves. She was understandably very protective of her people which has come across as outright aggression towards people and other dogs when out.

Arriving at the kennels however, Katana realised lots of noise was not going to make the volunteers back off, so has actually been absolutely fine to handle. She is also interested in the other dogs, but due to lack of socialisation, is wary as she learns how to interact.

This girl will need a home experienced with the breed please to expand her world and socialisation whilst giving her the mental and physical stimulation she needs.

Katana had the wonderful opportunity of having a break from kennels going to an experienced fosterer for just over a month:

“Katana is back to the kennels today, one last blast at the field with her mates before we leave later.

She really deserves to go on from us to a home, she has mixed with lots of different dogs plays with all of them. She walks really nicely on a lead after the first few minutes and shes only a bit looky/ strong and then walks right at your side.
She is lacking confidence still out and about but she has not seen enough of the world and with the help of a confident dog she will improve as time goes on.
She has done a couple of cani x runs and enjoyed them ran lovely on her line and also close by when needed. She is crate trained and very happy to be left for a few hours, but this would need to be built gradually in a new home ( only took a week with us) she just needs to know the routine etc and then settles happily into it.
We have goats, horses and sheep in the fields next to mine and she has had a look but recalls away very easily and no barking etc just being nosy! Her recall is good at my field but will need a long line/ further training out and about. She travels super in my van.
Please consider her if your thinking about another Katana has waited over a year with no interest and she’s such a lovely girl.”

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
