These two Sheps are looking for a new home because their human mum has become too unwell to care for them and in her words  “these beauties are not getting what they need, & that’s not good enough. They deserve more than having to fit in & around my health problems.  My sons are broken hearted as am I, but by being a part of the process of ‘family finding’ as much as we can be, that will help us to help them”    This lovely lady is Kayla, also known by the nickname Cake-ee (Pronounced as spelled), and her pal Spyda who is also known by the nickname SpiddyBear & Bearbee.  They have grown up with a loving family of mum and 3 sons.  The youngest son Joe who is now 10 & his brother Frank who is 15 are heartbroken to be parting with them, and they have written much of the description about their dogs who were just weeks old when they joined this family as puppies 4 years ago.    Their family are heartbroken to be having to part with them, but know its for the best for them for their future & our assessor has no doubt that they are much loved family pets.

Spyda is friendly & inquisitive when given the chance to say hello.   He can be boisterous, really affectionate, loves to stand in your lap resting his forehead on yours for a cuddle. He loves to kiss, but his favourite affection is very gently cleaning/licking your hands and arms.   We always tell him, ‘SpiddyBear that nice’..  he’ll want your other arm after that!   He’s not keen on cats, I don’t think he understands them!  He enjoys sitting on the sofa & he’s so big when he sits beside you the cuddles are really good!   Our assessor says he will need some boundaries setting, and some manners re-learning, as he can pull on the lead, probably not helped by getting less exercise now than in the past.   He is an intelligent dog, and learns fast.  He enjoys running but can be selective towards other dogs so some supervised socialising will be required.  He understands bed, sit, family, walk, out, schweeties (pronounced as spelled) Spyda will sit in front of the schweety cupboard!)

Kayla is a nosey lady, who can be quite cheeky at times.  She wants to know what is going on and prefers to take an active part in family life, full of beans, and eager to please she welcomed our volunteer with a few barks and then settled down and conducted her own assessment of the situation!   Kayla forms strong bonds and enjoys one on one attention from her mum.  She also has a strong bond with Joe and is happy to give you her paw when asked.  Kayla, particularly enjoys snuggling on the sofa or on Joe’s bed if she can get away with it!  Kayla particularly adores playing with her ball, and knows how to bring it back and surrender it for you to throw it again.

Both Kayla and Spyda knows their basic commands, and are quick to show how good their listening skills are.  They sat nicely for our assessor when offered a treat and Kayla was especially gentle taking treats from our volunteer.

Both will need some refresher training for walking on a lead, as both are enthusiastic, but that may be partially as they are not getting as much exercise as they prefer, as walks are much more limited at the present.

Both travel well in the car, and never been poorly, so not been to see the vet.

Our assessor felt that children over 7 would be acceptable and they could go together or to two separate homes.

Kayla is staying with her owner.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
