Kuma

Male Neutered age 4 ½ years

Kuma came to us from a home who told us he is a very loving dog with humans but is dog reactive and will chase after livestock.

Since being in kennels Kuma has shown his voillies what a really friendly boy he is , he excitedly greets all of his vollies whenever they go to see him. He will now sit and wait whilst you put his lead on and is eager and willing to get out of his kennel and go for a play in the paddock or a walk round the park.

He can walk nicely on the lead, but will sometimes jump up his handler if he is feeling a little anxious. In the enclosed paddock he has shown that he has had some training in the past and can walk off lead to heel and has quite good recall but both only if there are no other dogs to distract him.

He will work just as well for affection as he will for treats as this boy does love his people. He is now getting used to travelling and will settle down in the back of the car or van when he goes out to and from his walks. Kuma has now also been to the vets to start his vaccinations and was happy to let the vet check him over and give his injection

On walks out Kuma has proved himself to be a very strong dog who can be very reactive to other dogs, especially if they are coming towards him or if there is eye to eye contact with them.

Whilst the volunteers are trying to do some work on this it is a slow process and is something that will still need on-going training to address in his new home, so experience of dog reactive dogs would be a definite advantage for any new guardian. All of the volunteers have found Kuma to be a loving boy who enjoys human company and lots of fuss and will be well worth the time and effort put in.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
