Having come from working as a prison dog in a very busy environment, Louis needed time to switch off from being a working dog and learn to fully relax around other dogs again. This is his write up;
This rather handsome lad is Louis who is a GSD cross Herder. He was born September 2017. Louis is microchipped and vaccinated and now neutered.
We were asked to take Louis in from one of HM Prisons. He was fully licensed as a prison dog but sadly would get over heightened in the environment plus with an incident with another dog, began showing aggression towards other dogs when at work. Obviously this was not where his focus needed to be. At home he was happily living with his handler’s retired prison dog.
Sadly on one occasion, as his handler took him out of the day kennels, Louis lunged towards another dog in the kennels and when pulled back redirected and but his handler quite badly on the leg. This was the end of his career.
Louis is now in our care where he is switching off from the job, and is actually so much more relaxed with other dogs around him at the kennels. He is a super friendly lad with people and not seen an ounce of malice in him!
He will need a very strong, confident and experienced home who understands what he has experienced and why. No children and no other animals ideally, but he may well be happy living with a bitch for some normality and play.
