“Marcus a male Mali of about 18 months old. Found as a stray with very overgrown claws, a few of which were ripped off as though he’d been digging out of somewhere. These are very sore, and he’s on pain relief for them. He’s not a massive fan of anyone touching his feet, so he will need a muzzle when doing anything with them. Other than that, he’s a very sweet boy who loves lots of fuss. He doesn’t know any commands but is a very quick learner who wants to please the handler. Clean in kennels and had first vaccs, worm and flea treatments. Seems ok with dogs walking past his kennel.”

Obviously not a full Mali. Marcus has been friendly with everyone he has met so far, and seems to like the other dogs, especially the girls. No young children as we do not know his history.

This lad will need a home experienced with working breeds to give him the boundaries and training he needs. Marcus is now microchipped, fully vaccinated, neutered and had his nails checked, so looking for his own home.

Marcus went into foster for a few weeks and this is what his foster mum had to say where she called him Midas:

“What can I say about lovely Midas..what a massive character……what a stubborn boy….what a happy chap….so smiley…..what a loving boy….over affectionate at times….and oh boy, what a player!

Midas is so very intelligent and figures out those around him very quickly. So when I say ‘player’,I mean he knows exactly how to get his own way. With this in mind he will need strong leadership, someone who can make sure he doesn’t fall into a habit of being dominant. The dominant trait would mean that Midas would be best suited as either an only dog or with a female dog only, no male dogs. I also think because of his strength and protective nature that he would be best suited to a house with either a couple or a single person with no children.

Midas bonds super quickly and knows who he likes and trusts straight away. He also knows how to get what he wants, so clear commands and consistency will be needed.

Whoever is lucky enough to be the right fit for Midas will have a loyal, headstrong, extremely loving goofball who would protect if necessary.”

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
