UPDATE – JANUARY 2026

Hello everyone,

My name is Maya and I’m a 3 year old Mali.

I am looking for a home as my previous owner dumped me in the kennels.

Now, as I’ve already mentioned I am a Mali so I do need my next family to meet some requirements.
I need a home that has got knowledge of my breed as us Belgians are quite special and I will need plenty of exercise and stimulation to keep my brain busy.
Out walking I’m ok with other dogs but I’m not sure if I could live with one as I’ve never tried this before but never say never! I’d be rubbish around cats so none of those please.

I love toys so I’d need plenty please and a large comfy bed too would be lovely.
I reckon that I’d be ok with older kids as I’m sure I could soon train them up quickly to meet my needs in the playing department.

It’s time for me to confess I’m afraid and tell you all that I used to try and chase cars, I don’t do this now but if I hear one of those cars with the loud exhausts I do still get a bit excited. I’ll try my best not to though – promise!

I’m ready for a home now please if anyone is out there.
Love Maya.

This pretty little Mali girl is currently living at the kennels where the Notts dogs are kept.

Maya is just 3 years old, sadly she has been crated for most of her short life and just let out for toilet breaks. She also arrived at the kennels wearing a prong collar. She is now walking well on a slip lead.

We have stepped in to try and help socialise this little girl and hopefully also help to try and find her the home that she deserves.

Maya is understandably full of beans, she needs to run & play to burn off some of her energy.

She is a very switched on alert little girl, a very quick learner and also very eager to please.

Maya can be reactive to dogs and vehicles while out but already we have seen lots of improvement over the last two weeks.

Once Maya has met someone a few times and she feels safe she becomes very loving, she can be wary of new people to start with.

Maya has shown no aggression over food, treats or toys.

Maya would need to be the only pet in the household and she would need someone that has the experience to train a young working dog.

She has lots of potential, she just needs a chance with someone who understands her needs.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
