Merlin is a 7 year neutered male. Vaccinations out of date and needs Microchipping.

This is what our volunteer had to say about him:

“Merlin is a sweet 7.5 year old kc club registered gsd. He is a neutered male who was keen to see me and give me a big kiss on the face when I arrived. He didn’t bark when I knocked but did want to jump up to say hello a few times. Whilst excited to see me he quickly settled down. He is being rehomed due to his parents taking on the guardianship of their disabled granddaughter and as a result are not able to give him the attention that he deserves. He walks quite well on a halti but is a little headstrong but not overly.  He is allergic to cat flea bites and has some sores on his lower back near his tail and keeps trying to nibble these but current owners state that he is regularly treated and this keeps these to a minimum. When they are out he is placed in a cone of shame to stop him from biting too much- when they are home he stops nibbling on command. He lives with several cats and a young child and doesn’t seem to mind either. He was quite intrigued by the neighbour’s chickens but wasn’t barking and didn’t try to get over the waist high fence to get them. We saw a cat out on our walk and he didn’t react other than look at it. I am told that he is reactive to other dogs but not in an aggressive manner just wants to be everybody’s friend. The current owners states that they have had Merlin since he was an eight week old pup and that he has been taught to  take treats from their mouths as they wanted him to be gentle around the children- but for some reason I didn’t want to try this.  He has basic commands and has some recall but this will need to be worked on by his new parents.”

Merlin’s owners have decided they cannot part with him.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
