Nala is 4 years old. She is snot spayed or vaccinated but is microchipped. She is good with the family children but reactive to other dogs since she was attacked as a 1 year old. We re told she is good with cats. Does pull on lead but is not getting enough exercise at present, and no recall as never let off leas. Good basic commands. Can resource guard food. This is what our volunteer had to say about her:
“Nala is a small 4 year old GSD who suffers from nervous aggression/reactivity towards other dogs. When I arrived the owner met me outside her home with Nala on lead. Nala lunged at me and would not stop barking for several minutes. Owner advised that this reaction was unusual. When we went inside, she eventually calmed down and I was able to give her treats and get her to sit and down. Nala is currently in good physical condition but because of her current situation and Nala’s behaviour, owner is unable to walk her sufficiently.
Nala’s owner is in a particularly dire situation due to a previous relationship meaning she is struggling financially with a pending eviction, two children, and a health scare.
Nala’s reactivity stems from an attack by two Bull breeds when she was a year old. Prior to this she had been well socialised with other dogs. Nala has not been spayed as she was underweight during her first year and her owner was advised to wait until 2 years. Due to lockdown this was not done, and owner can’t afford it now.”
Can you help Nala and her family out of a difficult situation please?
