Ozzy is available for adoption through GSRE – this is what his current owner says about him.

Ozzy is a 19-month-old, male, semi length coat, white German Shepherd – possibly Swiss Shepherd. He is not currently neutered but is microchipped, vaccinated and worm/flea treated. He has no known food allergies and no disclosed medical issues. He has only lived in his current home for two months when he was bought online from a Swiss Shepherd website.

Ozzy is being rehomed through GSRE as he is not getting along with the other male dog in the home and because he resource-guards his food (bite history).

Ozzy has been rehomed once during his two months living with his current owners, which resulted in a bite. The circumstances are that the ‘new’ owner threw a denta-stick into the room for Ozzy before turning their back and heading to leave the room and shut the door. Ozzy followed and bit them, catching a vein which required medical attention. Police were made aware and Ozzy’s current owners agreed to take him back to their home.

Ozzy reportedly came from a home with children, which he had no interest in, but he currently does not live with any. Due to his food guarding and bite history, he will not be rehomed with children. He is described as being good with other dogs when off-lead but will bark at them if he is on-lead. He is currently living with another male dog which he is not getting along with and they are kept separated. It is believed that he may be able to live with a female dog having done so for a short stint when staying at someone else’s house.

He is good with cats and described as being excited around livestock. He will bark when people visit or deliveries arrive at the home. He travels well in the car and although he guards his food, he does not guard his toys.

Ozzy predominantly spends his time crated indoors in a room where he is generally alone. He is housetrained and does not react to noises/sounds in the home. He is described as being very excitable when first going out on the lead but no major pulling. His recall isn’t great if there are distractions. He knows commands sit and come. He is good when visiting the vets.

During the time the GSRE assessor spent with Ozzy, this is what they said about him.
The assessor found Ozzy to be a really gentle boy. He was excited when he was let out of his crate but he was not over the top. He was also excited when being taken for a walk but no major pulling. He is currently quite underweight and appears to have less than expected muscle tone for his age (possibly not getting exercised).

Ozzy just wanted some love but he was not demanding or overly jumpy. He was very keen to listen and seemed quite keen to come away with the assessor.
The assessor thought he was so lovely that if their own dog would have accepted him (which they wouldn’t) they would have been tempted to adopt him themselves.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
