Wilson is an 18 month old Malinios, he is microchipped, vaccinated and neutered.

Wilson came in as a young pup from a family who had not researched the breed and couldn’t give him what he needed. Sadly because of this he has then spent most of his life in kennels which he finds very stressful. Wilson does suffer from separation anxiety and will panic and destroy whatever he can get hold of. However whilst in foster this has improved slowly, he is crate trained, is good as gold overnight and can now be left for around an hour if he’s had exercise and left with a chew. This would have to be built up slowly in his new home and having other dogs around is a big help.

Wilson was trialled as a police dog but sadly was destroying their enrichment compound and as the course didn’t start for a few months they were not able to keep him.

Wilson has been in foster a few times for a few weeks/ month at a time and is improving with each stay. He does chase bikes and runners, it’s the movement not the person, but is now at the stage where a runner can go past and we can keep walking rather than put him in a sit to one side if there is a good wide gap. Bikes still need a sit but he will now sit and wait and not bark or lunge but it does take work if you let him make the decision it will be the wrong one!

He loves to swim, and will try to drag you into any water he finds! He has been to a dog pool and loves it and is a very strong swimmer. Wilson has also been taken out with a CaniX group and given runners can be an issue he was an absolute star. He runs out on his line and pulls straight away he loves it and it’s definitely something he would love to do going forwards. He runs with the pack no problem at all but you do need to be aware if a runner comes the other way but again that is improving with each run. He has run as a single dog and paired with another Mali and a Lurcher and went well with them both.

Wilson can be strong on the lead but will also walk nicely once settled into the walk, he is walked on a halti which he is quite happy in. He does have a fairly good recall and will naturally check in with you so once the other issues have been tackled he could be off lead. He is both food and toy driven and enjoys working for you.

He regularly goes to a secure field with a big group of others and plays nicely with all of them, however he can be funny with entire males or males similar in age in the home. He may out on walks if off the lead be a bit much for small dogs as his prey drive can take over mid chase. He is currently in foster with another male Malinios, and 3 lurchers 1 male and 2 females. He cannot live with cats. Children would need to be older.

Wilson settles nicely in the house once he has had his exercise, he does like a sofa! And he likes something in the afternoon/eve could be a walk or ball play or brain activities to help him settle for the evening.

Wilson is just a young lad who was let down early on and now needs a chance to show his people what he can be.

Wilson has been adopted by his foster home.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
