Winter was born 27.8.19 so is just a year old. She is microchipped and vaccinated and recently had her first season so can be spayed November. Winter has been with her family since January having been taken from a household which was far from suitable, and we wonder what she may have been through.

Winter is living with children over the age of 7 but she is very nervous of meeting new people, more so men, less so children, and can take quite a while to stop being vocal, and sometimes more than one introduction. Our volunteer was with Winter quite a while before she finally calmed down, was unmuzzled, and started accepting treats and attention, but then she was just a typical soppy pup.

Winter was not good with dogs but has been going to doggy day care to help this. She was more pushy than aggressive and is learning how to play now and show some etiquette, however, her behaviour when out walking is atrocious as she lunges and barks at every dog she sees. In fact her owner says it has got worse since going to day care so possibly more frustration that she expects to be able to play with every dog now? Hence not good on the lead and recall not at all reliable.

Winter is being rehomed because mum is now pregnant and worried about Winter pulling her over. Winter needs a very experienced home that can continue to work with her doggie and people socialisation, being confident and calm. It may well be that she would benefit from an older role model however initial introductions could be interesting. Once you know Winter and she trusts you, she is a typical loving young lady. Are you Winter’s special home?

Winter has found herself a wonderful new home and a super big brother.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
