The message we received from the council:

“A brief history – They are from a group of 10 in total that were left in a one room of a property after the owners disappeared -all dirty with faeces and matted to varying degrees. One of the owner’s family members has been trying to resolve the situation. Initially 5 of these were handed in to us as strays. Having been helped by GSD2000 previously we contacted them to secure rescue space for the dogs. Subsequently we have discovered that the owners had abandoned them in the property along with a further 5 dogs (Bruno and Goldie are the parents and there were 3 younger dogs).

Goldie is approx. 8 yrs old, short coat and unneutered. She was a little anxious but aside from barking at me when I was outside the gate showed no aggression to myself or the RSPCA officer with me when inside the garden. Bruno is approx. 4-5yrs and showed no aggression at all to either of us. He did have a problem with one of the male pups (approx. 2yrs) and several times was aggressive towards him, causing some puncture wounds, but didn’t appear to have an issue with any of the other dogs. He is long coated and currently quite matted.

At present we are struggling to find rescue space and as these dogs are not stray we cannot take them in. The family member is struggling to cope with the situation so the situation is quite dire. The property is owned by a housing association who will be taking the property back and changing the locks but have agreed to give us time to clear out the remaining dogs.”

Of course we said yes! Both dogs were in a dreadful state to the point poor Bruno had to have most of his coat shaved off. Bruno was microchipped but not Goldie. That has now been rectified and vaccinations started. Both now neutered. Both dogs needed to build up weight and muscle mass as they had obviously not been properly exercised for months!

These poor dogs are now loving life receiving proper care.

Bruno actually went into foster for a while with volunteers who had been regular visitors to the kennels. He settled in extremely well considering his background and loved his foster mum and dad. Unfortunately there was an incident with a friend when out, where she went to close and too quickly towards his face and he did grab her arm, so we know this lad will need an adult only home where there is not much through traffic. Would live with a bitch happily. Cats unknown.

Can you give Bruno the home he so deserves please?

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
