Please meet Chaos who was born March 2024 and is a GSD cross Mali. He is microchipped and neutered and we are told he is vaccinated. Being rehomed as his owner has changed job and it means he is not getting enough exercise at present. Good with family children and loves the JRT he lives with, but can be anxious of new dogs as he was attacked as a pup.

Chaos has become more protective over his home as he has got older but managed correctly it is not a problem. He was shut away when our volunteer arrived and after 10 minutes he was brought in on lead. He was ignored and whilst keeping an eye, he was apprehensive but no aggression. They then went for a walk:

“We went to the park. Chaos walked well on the lead with his owner and seemed to lose interest in me on the way there. In the park the owner took Chaos off the lead, and he waited for the release command. His owner threw a ball which Chaos clearly loves and he demonstrated good sits and downs. Owner says that Chaos has good recall which he demonstrated. Chaos can sometimes be reactive around other dogs but he was fine with the few that we passed. He is very ball orientated and owner focused. I threw the ball a good few times and Chaos was happy to switch to me and responded to the commands I gave. This is a high drive, activity and owner focused dog who I think would be a pleasure to train further.

He seems to have good bone structure and coat with nice movement and no apparent joint problems. He is athletic but overweight at the moment. When he has lost weight he will be a physically impressive and good looking dog. Chaos let me walk him home on lead; he walked nicely and didn’t pull. When I stopped walking he stopped too and checked with me. When we got back inside the house  and sat down again his attitude to me was transformed from before; he came over and let me stroke and rub him and was very affectionate. He showed a very sweet nature indeed, which the  owner and his mum said is typical of him with people he knows. I emphasised the territorial behaviour with a stranger that Chaos showed with me initially was well within the norm for the breed and seemed to me mostly anxiety and lack of structure, and that it could be dealt with.

In conclusion Chaos seems to me to be a confident and sweet natured dog brought up in a loving home who is ball motivated and no trouble in the house. The Malinois in him is apparent in his temperament; he is clearly on the higher drive end of the scale. For this reason I think he would flourish in an active family home able to give structure and activity. I think he would do well with dog-savvy older kids, and potentially other dogs.“
