Albie is available for adoption through GSRE – this is what his current owner says about him.
Albie is a 23-month-old, male, semi haired, black and tan German Shepherd. He is not currently neutered but is microchipped, vaccinated and worm/flea treated. He has no known food allergies and no disclosed medical issues.
His current owner stated that once, after a full day at doggy day care, Albie was a bit stiff in his legs but has been fine since. He currently eats raw food, Bella & Duke, bone and meat mix. He has lived in his current home since being 8 weeks old when he was bought from a breeder.
Albie is being rehomed through GSRE as his current owner has had a change of lifestyle and no longer has time available for him.
The adult female of the home was walking Albie in a field when he was about one year old and he jumped up and mouthed, keeping hold of her sleeve which made her feel uneasy and since then she has lost confidence with him.
Albie is good with children aged 5 years and over but can still get over-excited due to his age and will sometimes mouth so may be better with older dog savvy children. He is good with other dogs and tends to mirror their behaviour. He has stayed with a dog sitter for a week, along with other unknown dogs, without issue. He is good with cats and horses. He has never shown any aggression towards or bitten anyone but will occasionally mouth due to his age and excitement level. He will bark when somebody comes to the door but not excessively.
Albie is left alone for up to 6 hours in the house with no destructive behaviour. He travels well in the car, lives indoors and is housetrained. He walks reasonably well on a lead but can sometimes pull and get excited when another dog is reacting towards him. He does not have a recall but does know sit, lay, wait and paw. He does not show any possessive tendencies over food or toys. He likes to play with a ball and is food orientated, which is great when training. He is good when visiting the vets but didn’t like the vet sticking something up his nose. He is not muzzle trained.
During the time the GSRE assessor spent with Albie, this is what they said about him.
Albie is a good-looking GSD. He is a typical teenager who can be over-bouncy and sometimes can mouth but showed no sign of growling or aggression.
Albie would do very well in a home that is willing and able to continue his training, possibly with an older dog/bitch who could be a positive role model for him.
The assessor summarised Albie as being a great dog with no real issues, other than being a teenager! And if they could have taken him home, they would have done!
Albie has been adopted.
