Callie is available for adoption through GSRE – this is what her current owner says about her.
Callie is a 2-year-old female, black and tan German Shepherd with a short length coat. She is not currently neutered and had her last season in October (no litters). She is micro-chipped, vaccinated and flea/worm treated. She has no known food allergies and currently eats AVA Optimum Health daily. She has no disclosed medical issues. She has been in her current home since she was a puppy when she was bought from a breeder.
Callie is being rehomed as her current owner has two young children (one with special needs) who often stress her due to noise or activity level. Her owner believes that Callie would be better in a quieter, calmer home with no children or older, dog savvy teenagers who will be happy to let her relax.
Callie is described as being good (submissive) with dogs and currently lives with a small dog. She would like to live with a dog in her new home too if possible. She goes to doggy day care once a week, which she enjoys, and also likes to meet up with other dogs to go for walks. She is good with cats and currently lives with one. She is good with livestock but a little tentative. She does not bark at visitors to the home and is happy to welcome strangers but will bark at the postie.
Callie is tolerant to being touched and played with by the resident children but is sensitive to being startled by them when she is asleep. When the children try to interact with her when she is sleeping, Callie doesn’t like it and is described as having the potential to nip. She is currently left for over 4 hours and does not show any destructive behaviour during that time. She travels well in the car, lives indoors and is fully housetrained. She will bark to be let out into the garden to do her business and will bark to come back in again when finished.
Callie pulls when walked on the lead and is much better when walked off-lead. She has a recall and also knows sit and stay. She does not show any possessive tendencies over food and toys towards people or animals. She is described as being good when visiting the vets. She is very ball focused and can sometimes get a little excited and air snap for the ball. She sometimes digs and chews in the garden but is well mannered in the house. She is normally fine with fireworks and loud noises.
During the time the GSRE assessor spent with Callie, this is what they said about her.
When the assessor knocked on the door, the other resident dog barked but Callie did not. Callie greeted them politely in the house and was happy to have a scratch.
Callie is a lovely girl who let the assessor check her paws and ears without issue. Her coat is in great condition. She is a wonderful dog who would benefit from a home without children where she can be more relaxed, preferably with another dog. If the assessor had space at home, Callie would have gone home with them!
