Charlie

This was Charlie who we believe was a Herder cross Akita. He was just 7 months old when we were asked to take him in by one of our rescue contacts. His young male owner had mental health issues and was not coping.

Charlie arrived a very scared and displayed nervous aggression so was being given time and space to trust his carers. He was not eating properly so advantage was taken of this as he was hand fed lots of tasty food to build up the bond.

Charlie was with us just 8 nights when he was found dead. No signs of a struggle, just dead. Our vets carried out a quite detailed post mortem and could find nothing wrong with any of his organs, no blockages or obstructions, no signs of abuse on his body internally, and whilst not definitive, felt he had probably had a neurological episode and suffered a brain bleed. This would have been instantaneous.

We are so sorry Charlie we did not have a proper chance to show you humans can be kind and loving and life can be fun, but you can run free now over Rainbow Bridge and live life to the full now.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
