Dexter is available for adoption through GSRE – this is what his current owner says about him.

Dexter is a 2-year-old, male, black and tan, semi-haired, German Shepherd cross Labrador. He is neutered, microchipped, worm treated and his vaccinations are now overdue. He has no known food allergies and currently eats Skinners dry raw food once daily. The only disclosed medical issues are a UTI when he was a puppy and has had a flea infestation which has resulted in a small amount of hair loss around his tail/lower back (treatment ongoing). He is described as being good when visiting the vets. He has lived in his current home since he was 10 weeks old when he was purchased from a breeder.

Dexter is being rehomed through GSRE as his current owner believes that he isn’t getting the best life that he could have, with them.

Dexter is described as being good with children aged 8-16 years and currently lives with three who he plays well with. He is not good with other dogs but has lived with another older Labrador since he was bought as a puppy, without issue. When he sees other dogs, he will bark and growl at them. He is good with cats and his reaction to livestock is unknown. He has never shown aggression towards anybody, is good with deliveries/post to the home as well as visitors.

Dexter is left alone for around 8 hours, normally crated. He is happy travelling short distances in the car, lives indoors and is fully housetrained. He is good on-lead and knows basic commands. He does not show any possessive tendencies over food or toys.
During the time the GSRE assessor spent with Dexter, this is what they said about him.
The assessor had the pleasure of meeting Dexter who did not bark or show any signs of aggression towards them. He knows basic commands and was happy for the assessor to take toys away from him whilst playing.

Dexter would make somebody a good loving dog; he just needs to be walked more. He is toy and treat focused, plays well with the owners’ children and is apparently ok with loud noises.

Dexter is a puppy in a big dog’s body!

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
