This sweet girl is Dottie. We were asked to take her in from council kennels who were going to euthanise her as she had not been claimed. We could not say no.

We believe Dottie is about 2 years old. Not a very big girl and came in looking emaciated but soon put on weight nicely. Unspayed but can be done the end of April. She wasn’t even microchipped bless her. Now fully vaccinated.

Now in foster, Dottie is having a ball with a male GSD, horses, cats and children, not to mention more visiting friends. She has also been to the pub! Learning and seeing so much is doing her the world of good. This is what her foster mum has to say about her:

“Dottie’s character is blooming having spent the last month or so in a stable environment. She is a lovely girl, bright, inquisitive, engaging, responsive, happy. When we are out and about people comment on how lovely she is. Once you’ve earnt Dottie’s trust, she is a cracking dog. Dottie is very friendly, she has no issues with meeting new people, outside or with new visitors coming into the home. She has been to lots of public environments and is fine (pubs, garden centres, high streets). She does have a cautious side, but her confidence is continually building in all aspects of her character.

Dottie gets on well with my male German Shepherd. Dottie has been great with other dogs she has met. Our neighbours have two German Shepherds who she gets on well with. She has been to a number of dog training session at a German Shepherd dog training club. In a class of 8 other German Shepherds she is as cool as a cucumber, relaxed and whilst the other male dogs are barking at each other, Dottie lays on the floor not in the least bit bothered.  The instructor in class said she is bright, works really well, having come on a lot in a very short period of time. The instructor said “can’t you get Dottie adopted by someone local so they can keep coming to classes, as she will be really good if her owner keeps training up”.

Whilst with me she has not suffered with separation anxiety and has been fine with being left for short periods of time.

She can walk nicely on a lose lead, but she can also have moments of pulling, hence more lead work training required. She now knows basic commands (sit, down, wait, stay, off). Whilst Dottie has not been off the lead in public places, she has been off the lead in our field and we are establishing a decent recall (although distractions are limited).

She has met a couple of very small dogs, they appear to engage her chase drive.  We have a dog savvy cat and she does follow the cat around the house. She finds small creatures rather interesting!”

Calm and confident home wanted for this special girl please.

Dottie has been adopted.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
