May I introduce Gemma who is in our care. Gemma was born 4.11.19 so not yet 2. She is now spayed She is microchipped and vaccinated. Gemma was purchased by a family 6 months before from a breeder, however she was actually imported from Croatia and comes from working lines. The family were told she was good with kids and dogs, however, should never have been placed in this family environment who had little experience with the breed.
Gemma has high toy drive but is too nice to be a working dog, having been assessed by two police forces. We were told she wants to play with other dogs (and people) but is a frustrated greeter. On lead she could be reactive to people, dogs and vehicles, and her herding behaviour around the children does involve chasing. She was very bonded with her dad and would get jealous if the children are with him.
Gemma’s family tried to get help from trainers but ultimately the family recognise they just cannot give her the environment and stimulation that she desperately needs. They understand a lot of her behaviour is related to frustration and boredom.
Since being with us we have not had any major issues with her at all. She has been fine with everyone she has met and has been around other dogs with no problem. Loves her toys!
Gemma will need a GSD experienced home who can continue to give her the training, stimulation and socialisation she requires. This girl would love a ‘job’ to keep her busy and once she has found her niche, could be a super young lady.
Gemma has been adopted.
