May I introduce Gemma who has just come into our care. Gemma was born 4.11.19 so is just a year old. She is not yet spayed but is microchipped. Gemma was purchased by a family 6 months ago from a breeder, however she was actually imported from Croatia and comes from working lines. The family were told she was good with kids and dogs, however, should never have been placed in this family environment.
Gemma has high drive and really needs a job. We are told she wants to play with other dogs (and people) but is a frustrated greeter. On lead she is reactive to people, dogs and vehicles, and her herding behaviour around the children does involve chasing and nipping. Very bonded with her dad and gets jealous if the children are with him.
Gemma’s family have tried to get help from trainers but ultimately the family recognise they just cannot give her the environment and stimulation that she desperately needs. They understand a lot of her behaviour is related to frustration and boredom.
Gemma will need a GSD experienced home with no young children who can give her the training, stimulation and socialisation she requires. This girl needs a ‘job’ to keep her busy and once she has found her niche, could be a super young lady.
