Karma is still a baby and not yet a year old. Not yet spayed but she is microchipped and vaccinated. She has been in the same home since a pup and her owner now suspects the breeder was not as professional as they made out as her KC paperwork never appeared! This is what our volunteer had to say about her:

“The owner pre-warned me that Karma would jump up in excitement when I arrived, so she had her on her lead when I got there. Karma was super excited when I arrived – the owner kept her on her lead for about 5 mins and every chance she got, Karma would try to come over to me, she was whimpering with excitement.  Nothing about this was aggressive, she just wanted to play.  Once Karma was given a chew toy (with food in) she focused on that, only coming over to me a few times to show me, say hello, try to get to the snacks in my pocket.  The two young children were very confident around Karma and she played with them, although she is a boisterous young dog so inevitably there was some bouncing around.

Karma looks fit and well, maybe a little underweight but she is still only 10 months so could yet be to fill out.  I couldn’t do a physical exam as she was so excitable, but I was able to get close enough to see her ears, eyes, claws and she looks perfectly healthy.  She isn’t walked daily, she spends most of her time in the back garden.  This could explain the over excitement when she does get taken out for walks, owner said that she regularly had diarrhoea when she first goes for a walk. She is walked on a normal collar with a bungee lead.

Karma is crate trained – and she has very good training in basic commands (as above) – I witnessed all of this and none of it involved treats, just good training which the owner has tried to do as much as possible.

Karma was let into the garden which is very much her domain – I called her with treats but she wasn’t interested, she was more focused on the huge branch she was carrying around! The owner has said she regularly picks up scents of squirrels/birds in the garden and wants to follow them, not sure if this is useful but I know you work with the police so thought I’d mention it.

There is no sign of guarding between the family – couple and two young children – Karma spends most time with the mum but does not display any kind of guarding towards the dad.

Karma is a lovely natured dog and sweet pup – she is energetic and excitable but nothing about her behaviour felt worrying, and she showed a lot of intelligence with the reaction she has to commands.  At one point her owner asked her to drop the toy she had in her mouth (with food in it) and she did so immediately.  I think she would make an amazing dog for someone who has the time and commitment to build on this and enable her to have more freedom to go on long walks/runs and socialise with other dogs safely.”

Karma needs a GSD experienced home who can build up her confidence in the outside world whilst helping her socialisation with other dogs. Are you that special home?

Karma has been adopted.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
