Meet Max. He is 3yrs old, neutered, not vaccinated but he is chipped.

Max has found himself in rescue as his dad suddenly died and poor Max was left home alone. While Max lived with his dad one of our volunteers was in touch with them both having helped out with Max in the past as he was quite a handful for his owner at times.

As the owner was not present for the assessment our volunteer has told us all she knows about him from previous meetings.

He has never been around children, the few times he has been around dogs he seems to be ok, no to cats and livestock unknown.

He does bark when people arrive at the house and is quite guardy so needs to learn that is unacceptable.

Seems to know his basic commands and is average on the lead, no idea of recall.

Not keen on vet visits but hopefully they do not happen that often.

In situations he feels under threat he will use his teeth.

Poor Max has missed out on a lot of socialising with people and other dogs, he has also missed out on his walks so has little to no muscle tone at all so this will need working on.

Due to his evident lack of training and guidance he will still mouth if given the chance so this needs to stop immediately.

Very experienced home only for this dog, maybe even working home if suitable.

Max has been adopted by his foster family.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
