Willow is available for adoption through GSRE – this is what her current owner says about her.

Willow is an 18-month-old female, black and tan German Shepherd with short hair. She is not currently neutered but is vaccinated, micro-chipped and worm/flea treated. She has no disclosed medical issues other than occasionally having a sensitive stomach (no known food allergies). She currently eats Pedigree Vital dog food. She has been in her current home since she was 12 weeks old after being bought from a private breeder in London.

Willow is being rehomed as her current owner states that the resident children (3 and 6 years old) have become afraid of her due to her chasing them, mouthing (whilst growling and baring teeth) and jumping up with excitable/rough play. This can sometimes result in marks and bruises. Although her current owner does not feel this to be led by aggression at all, the children have become wary of Willow.
Willow is not good with other dogs and will chase them to bite their legs in order to ‘bring them down’. She has never lived with another dog. She is not good with cats either as she will chase and bite them also. Her reaction to livestock is unknown.
When people visit the home, Willow will jump up with some growling and showing of teeth. She will also mouth but this is not described as being aggressive. She can be left for 2 hours, does not chew or have accidents and is given the run of the house. She travels well in the car but will bark at people if they get too close to the vehicle. She currently barks at noises and people/dogs walking past when she is in the garden. She lives indoors and is fully housetrained.

Willow does pull on the lead and currently wears a harness when out. She is described as having a recall as long as she is not distracted. She knows sit, paw and down and is learning the stay command. She does not show any possessive tendencies over food or toys. She is said to be anxious but not aggressive when visiting the vets.
During the time the GSRE assessor spent with Willow, this is what they said about her.
Upon the arrival of the assessor, Willow was vocal and jumped up but settled very quickly with a ball. She did not show any aggression whatsoever. She was a little nervous at first but soon came around and was bringing her ball. She responded well to sit, down, paw and was gentle when taking treats.

Willow is very playful – she chases the resident children, jumps up and mouths them, at the same time she will growl and show teeth but she does not bite (just mouths hard). She has only had basic training, but a great foundation can be seen with her. She is intelligent and eager, so with a new owner with GSD experience, with time and training she will become an excellent dog.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
