This is Zeus’ original write up when assessed in his home in May 2023:

“Zeus urgently needs a new home please. He is just 8 months old and is spending long hours alone due to a relationship breakdown. He is a Mali cross and is still entire but is microchipped and vaccinated. He is good with children but we are told not other dogs, however I would imagine this is due to a lack of getting out and socialising and he is young enough for this to be turned round. A no to cats though. No issues over food and toys but as you can imagine, at his age he is frustrated and will mouth and does chew due to boredom. Our volunteer described him as a lovely friendly boy in good condition. This lad just needs a home with some experience of the breed where he will get the exercise and training he desperately needs and where he will not be left for long hours. In return you will be getting a super loving young man to join your family.”

We were told Zeus had been rehomed privately and yet we were asked to help a young Mali in July 2024 who was not in an ideal situation after a relationship breakdown to find it was the same dog. Zeus is an angel considering what he has been through in his short life. He has good commands and showed no aggression or malice.

He is now safely in our care where his vaccinations have been restarted and he is now neutered and has done so well learning to socialise with other dogs and people. He can be protective of his person when out walking, especially if female.

Zeus spent a week in a home on a foster basis where unfortunately there was an incident which we do not feel was Zeus’ fault as it involved a visitor who we feel should not have been there before he was fully settled. Fortunately it was a minor incident and Zeus actually then removed himself from the situation. Otherwise, apart from the protective issues when walking, and with minor boundaries in regards to counter surfing, Zeus was the perfect gentleman in terms of manners and behaviour.

This lad will need a home that is experienced with the breed and committed as Zeus does not deserve to be passed from pillar to post anymore. He needs a that can make him feel confident enough that he does not have to be the protector but can relax and just be a dog. The kennels and volunteers love this lad and he deserves his forever home please.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
