Ben came to us after his previous Guardian had passed away and the family could not rehome him. We were told he is about 2 ½ yrs. old but the vollies who met him thought he was more like 5 yrs. and his microchip says 7. If you ask Ben he will say age is just a number and he is nothing but a big puppy and is it time to play yet.

Ben is not treat orientated at all but if you get a ball out he will focus entirely on that ball and he loves to play chasing one ball and swapping it when you throw another He would out run the Duracell Bunny if he was allowed to keep playing. On arrival he would only release one ball if you threw a second but on a recent trip out he started to realise if he didn’t let the hooman have the ball back they couldn’t throw it again. Because he is so bouncy and energetic we would not recommend small children in case he knocked them over.

Ben has been out to the park and can be strong on the lead especially if there are sniffs he needs to sample. When he is on his own his reaction to dogs varies, he can ignore them or he can pull towards them, he can be easily distracted though with, yes you guessed a ball . On a recent walk out with some of his kennel mates he was happy to say hello and have sniffs with careful introduction but if he is challenged by another dog he will respond. He does seem better meeting female dogs.

Ben is always excited to see his volunteers when they go to get him out, and can be a little too excited in his kennel jumping up and not wanting to wait for his lead to go on before he tries to get out. This is possibly because he is used to being with people most of the time. Apart from being bouncy in the kennel once out Ben has been fine with all the people he has met enjoying a quick fuss with them, as long as it doesn’t interfere with his play. On his trip to the vets he was a good boy saying hello and exploring the surgery before wanting to play and the only complaint/request from the vet was could we hold him still for his jab. Because he can be so bouncy and energetic

We have had some success in grooming Ben, not because he doesn’t like but again because he doesn’t like standing still for too long, however by holding a ball to focus him he is quite happy to be brushed in-between fetches as long as he doesn’t have to sit or stand still for too long.

All the volunteers at Linc’s have fallen for Ben and he will make a great addition to a home where someone is willing to play with him and spend a bit of time with training and socialisation.

Ben has been adopted.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
