Bonnie is available for adoption through GSRE – this is what her current owner says about her.

Bonnie is a 20-month-old female, black and tan German Shepherd with semi-length coat. She is neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated and flea/worm treated. She has no known food allergies and no disclosed current medical issues. She eats AVA chicken, twice daily, with some occasional tinned food. She has lived with her current owner since she was bought as a puppy at 12 weeks old from a private breeder.

Bonnie is being rehomed due to her current owners work commitments, not having enough time for her and expecting a new baby.

Bonnie currently lives with one young child but it is believed she would be happier with older/teenage children due to some anxiety shown. She is good with other dogs in the owner’s family as she has known them since she was a puppy, however, she can be a little reactive towards other unknown dogs when out and about. She will bark at other dogs, occasionally lunging with her hackles raised but the handler can gain her attention again with a treat or ball. She currently lives with two cats and is described as being ‘OK’ with them, although her current owner believes a home without cats might be better (unknown why). Her reaction to livestock is unknown.

Bonnie is currently left alone in the home for 4-5 hours. She has occasionally chewed her bed during that time or has taken items from the counter top. She travels well in a car and does not suffer from travel sickness. She lives indoors in the kitchen and uses a crate, which she feels is her ‘safe-space’. She is fully housetrained.

She is nervous/anxious when visiting the vets (possibly needs muzzle training for her visits). Her current owner describes her as being amazing and super-friendly with people and has never shown any aggression towards anyone visiting the home. She will initially bark and be excited but will have a sniff and settle down.

Bonnie generally walks OK on a lead but will sometimes pull. The owner tends to avoid close contact with other dogs whilst out (crosses road). She has quite a good recall and will return for a treat or her ball as a reward. She also knows commands sit, stay, bed, lay down, paw (sometimes) and leave. She does not show any possessive tendencies over food/toys.

During the time the GSRE assessor spent with Bonnie, this is what they said about her.
Bonnie was in the kitchen behind a gate when our assessor arrived at the home. Bonnie initially raised her hackles, barked and appeared excited. She was let out of the kitchen and had a good sniff of the assessor before taking some treats from them and settling down.

Bonnie is a very nice young girl who needs someone to spend more time with her and continue her training and teach her boundaries.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
