Comet

[dog_sldieshow]

Comet is a GSD cross Staffie! She will be 4 in July. She is microchipped and vaccinated but not yet spayed but could be done end February. She lives with children from 9 months up and has stayed with a cat at the owner’s mum’s house where she did ignore it. She ignores dogs out on walks but will ‘give back’ if a dog barks or lunges at her. Who wouldn’t? Being rehomed because her family is moving in a few weeks and they cannot take Comet with them!

This is what our volunteer had to say about her:

“Comet is a lovely little dog – she’s more Staffy than GSD in size and colour – but her head and especially her ears show the mix. She looks in nice condition.

On arrival she was excited to see me – she was jumpy and a bit mouthy – but she settled very quickly when her owner gave her a bone to chew on – she then pretty much ignored me for most of the time! She’s got some nice reactions – if I started playing with her she played back (and yes that is quite boisterous but she’s not a big dog) but when I told her to calm she calmed and let me rub her head.

On a walk Comet wore a halti harness and walked nicely – she’s a big sniffer so she did weave about a bit – and when we took the halti off she did pull. But from what the owner told me she is not walked often so I suspect regular walks and training would really make a difference – both for Comet and whoever was walking her.

While on the walk she spotted another dog – she was really interested but her reaction was to sit and whine with excitement like she really wanted to go play with the dog, rather than an aggressive reaction.

Comet is food driven so she will be easy to train – she’s loveable and I think she would benefit from being in a home where she can get the attention she deserves.”

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
