“Dex is a 4-year-old male neutered GSD who is currently staying with a friend of the owners on a working farm.
He was in his crate when I arrived at the farm and barked when he first heard my voice. I stood a couple of meters away when he was released from his crate. Dex was very relaxed around me, he stretched before quietly coming over to me to say hello. He greeted me very calmly and was happy for me to stroke his back. Dex shares the barn with a caucasian shepherd and three large goats. I saw a cat or two in the vicinity and Dex was unphased.
We walked Dex off the lead around the farm. Dex was happy to explore, and chase a pheasant but came back to us and was never too far away despite having a large field to explore. Dex was happy for me to make a bit more of a fuss of him and had no issues with me looking at his eyes and ears.
Dex happily pushed his head between my legs for attention during the walk and was happy for me to make a fuss of him with no adverse reactions. On returning to the barn after our walk we found the entrance occupied by the goats – Dex helped us find the other doorway in and was comfortable around the livestock.
Dex had a lovely temperament. I understand from his owner and the lady at the farm that he has never been aggressive around toys or food and has never bitten. The owner told me he will bark when people visit the house but is happy to welcome people indoors. Although I did not walk him on a lead, I understand that he can pull initially and will pull towards other dogs.
Dex is currently fed a raw diet once a day but seems very tolerant of other food types historically. I understand from the owner that Dex is not keen on fireworks.
Dex is a very straightforward, friendly dog looking for a forever home.
