Feb 24 Update

4 Years on this girl is still being overlooked in kennels and none of us can understand why as she is such a lovely girl so it’s time to update her details.

Isla has stayed with one of the volunteers quite a few times now and this is what she says about her….

“The original write up is well out of date and she has seen no signs of dominance in fact Isla responds well to instruction and loves to be told she is a “Good girl” she is a fast learner

She walks well on the lead and the reactiveness is more about her being scared than her being aggressive particularly if a dog gets in her face, The volunteer has been working with her on her reactiveness during her visits, originally by letting Isla carry a ball when out which works really well but as she has got better over the last couple of visits Isla has been walked with no ball and on a recent GSD group walk she walked in the middle of the group dog with no reactiveness at all.

At 8 years old this girl still has a lot of life in her and loves to fetch a ball and will do so for hours if you let her.  Material toys are shredded in about 30 seconds so we stick to the balls.

Isla has good recall and knows basic commands she is fully house trained, is good around her food and she takes treats gently.

She loves travelling in the car and can’t wait to get in it. Feedback from a recent visit to the groomers was that she behaved perfectly.

These days Isla loves to be around her human/humans so the escape artist from her past has long gone, she is very affectionate and she loves a good belly rub.  She is such a character

This gorgeous girl just needs someone to give her a chance

History

Isla came into us from a local council having done her 7 days and not been claimed. She is a GSD cross Australian Kelpie we believe. Just 4 years old according to her microchip and the council have started her vaccinations and spay her before bringing her in.

It would appear she can be an escape artist as the old owner (who had not bothered to update the microchip) said he had a few calls of her being found. Fine with people but can be quite vocal and jumps up to start. No young children as we do not know her history.

Isla does not appear keen on other dogs but would not class her behaviour as overly aggressive so this could well be worked with in an experienced home. A no to cats due to her drive.

A super active young lady who would need a home that can give her the physical and mental stimulation she obviously needs, and could be super fun at something like agility. She can try to be very dominant of her people so will also need confident and experienced owners to keep her in line.

Poor Isla has been in kennels with us coming up for 3yrs now with no interest at all!

This lovely Gsd x is a fab girl who is walked by all our volunteers with no issues at all. Not keen on other dogs getting in her face but very happy to walk alongside other dogs on lead.

Isla has been lucky enough to have the odd sleepover at our volunteers homes and they all say the same thing, she is a pleasure to have. We appreciate this is only a very short stay and as we all know dogs will push boundaries once they have been there a week or two and yes, Isla has shown some dominance issues with the people in the home but nothing that an experienced owner couldn’t deal with and put right quite quickly.

We really don’t want this lovely lass to spend another year in kennels it just isn’t fair, she so deserves a home to call her own.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
