Lyra is 1 year old. She is microchipped but not up to date with her vaccinations and not spayed. Her last season was October so she could be spayed February 2022. Lyra has been with her family since a pup but is now being rehomed due to a change in circumstances plus she has started trying to dominate the older bitch in the home.

This is what our volunteer had to say about her:

“Lyra is a small, young energetic, full GSD, and through no fault of her own has found herself in need of rehoming. She was friendly when I arrived and responded to basic commands straight away. Lyra’s current owner has 2 other GSD’s that she does agility with. Lyra worked well for treats and no reaction to loud noises or fireworks. Apparently she travels well and her owner says she often climbs into the back of her van and falls asleep.

The current owner has worked hard with Lyra. Lyra cold be rehomed with a male dog and at present is living with a male dog as company. Issues have arisen with her trying to assert dominance over an older female GSD which results in fighting. The older dog currently lives the owner’s mother next door so there is no immediate risk to either Lyra or the older dog but due to a long term illness with mum, the older dog will have to move in at some stage.

Lyra walked well on the lead. She is in lovely condition and although she has early signs of hip dysplasia it is not obvious seeing her walk, run, jump etc.”

Having seen her medical history our vet says Lyra actually has ligament laxity in both hips rather than hip dysplasia which will improve with the right exercise and treatment going forward. She currently attends hydro twice a week and loves it.

Do you have the time and funds to add this lovely young lady to your home?

Lyra has been adopted.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
