Where to start with this poor baby! Called at 10.30 at night a couple of weeks before Christmas, to be asked for help with a young Mali bitch who was tied to a tree in a back garden and had been for 3 days. A call for help had been put out on a local group as supposedly she had been abandoned there and the dog warden, RSPCA etc. weren’t interested. According to the neighbours the house had got her at the weekend, she supposedly had not got on with the resident dog and promptly been tied up in the garden, with a Mikki muzzle on!

Nika, as she has been named was born April 2025 we believe, as she was not chipped. We were greeted with an underweight, terrified little girl who was defending the little space she had between the tree and the fence panel. After some tricky handling of her, we managed to get her in the back of the car where she quickly settled.

After a night’s sleep, Nika quickly accepted me as her person and became a cuddly, mouthing pup.

Understandably, Nika is mistrusting of new people and rushes forward at them barking and showing her teeth as she believes defence is her best mechanism just in case poor girl. Once she accept you however, she is a super sweet girl. But, she does need boundaries establishing as she can jump up and start mouthing quite hard, but she is quick to learn and wants to please her person.

She is now fully vaccinated and microchipped, and is continuing her socialisation with people and other dogs, however to date, she has not been an issue with any of the other dogs she has been around.

When the time comes, this special little girl will need an understanding and breed experienced home that can continue to give her the confidence and training she needs. She may benefit from having an older role model.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
