We were contacted by a vet who had been asked to euthanise this young man. She had never seen the dog before but from what she had been told she felt it was more a case of the dog being in the wrong environment. All we knew at that stage was that Rocket was a Shepherd cross and was only just a year old. He had apparently spent the first 9 months of his life in a situation where he was crated a lot of the time because of young children, and this family had taken him on. Sadly he was now living life to the full and being destructive and too rough with their children.
Once he arrived at the vet, the power of rescue came into play, and yes he may not be a proper Shepherd or anything like one, but he was a sweet boy, so he was collected that night and taken to Cornwall.
Rocket is understandably quite overawed by his new environment and is taking time to settle, but has started to come out of his shell giving cuddles and working for treats. He has not shown any anxiety with the other dogs either and rather likes playing. He is microchipped (although it was not registered) and he is having his vaccinations restarted and will then be looking for an active family home with older children, and possibly an older role model to help him learn the ways of the world.
