May I introduce Sky who is 8 years old, spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. This is what our volunteer had to say about her:
“This beautiful girl’s world has fallen apart quite suddenly this year. Her devoted mum of 8 years has very recently died of cancer and the family and particularly her dad are simply not coping very well. Dad believes she deserves the same level of TLC previously provided by his wife and that he cannot give due to working hours.
Sky barks to alert the family someone is at the door and sometimes to let them know there is a squirrel in the garden. There is no other barking. She is very shy and nervous of strangers and backs away immediately from strangers. She has previously growled at people if they are overpowering/loud/force themselves on her. She has never bitten. If left alone/ignored Sky is quickly inquisitive and will come for a sniff. It was all of 2 minutes before we were friends and she allowed me to make a gentle fuss and give her a treat. It was all of 10 minutes before she was diving in my pocket looking for more and showing a lovely playful and cheeky side and allowing a more substantial fuss. She was comfortable being touched all over.
Sky loves children of all ages and happily spends time with the 2 grandchildren (3 and 5 years) who were there. She also greeted the son in law at the door during my visit in a very different way to me, i.e. someone she knows, she was happy to see him, very waggy tailed and wanting a fuss. She loves playing with her football in the garden and was happy to play with me. She makes funny growling type noises when you play with her and try to take the ball but always allows you to take it.
Sky was happy to come for a walk with me. She pulled a little at first and was a little erratic wanting to walk left of me and then right and across me to sniff at things but was easily corrected. We passed 2 dogs and she did not react at all, just looked at them and carried on. She very much wanted to chase the cat we saw. There wasn’t an appropriate place to try off lead but I’m told her recall is good. She was happy to have a little jog with me and I felt she would have liked a good run about. Dad says she is selective with other dogs, sometimes ignoring, sometimes stalking them, sometimes running towards them but that she has not shown any signs of aggression. She has never bitten another dog.
She is apparently showing a few signs of stiffness after laying around too long and finds the laminate flooring a little slippery and has skidded a few times hurting her leg for which she been prescribed Meloxicam. There is no formal diagnosis of any arthritis and I didn’t see any signs. I think she needs more regular exercise than she is currently getting. Sky is very long haired and needs regular grooming.
This girl is absolutely gorgeous and I would snap her up myself if only I could. “
Sky has been adopted.
