Stitch was 2 in August. He is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. He has been in his home since a pup. Being rehomed as his owner found herself homeless and she is not allowed a dog in the house share she has found. Stitch is currently staying with her mum but can only be short term. Stitch was taken in by Battersea but because of his stress levels he was very stressed so rather than being put to sleep, his owner took him back. This is what our volunteer has to say about him:

“When I arrived he did not bark or jump up. Although he did not initiate any engagement with me he licked my legs frequently adding scent to me but did not respond to touch. He was very fixated on his tennis ball and I would suggest this could do with some reduction as it was borderline obsessive. We did not walk him as it was far too hot. I was told he can pull on lead when excited and knows where he is going. His recall is good (this sounds like a combination of breed propensity and some anxiety. Stitch has lived with a Yorkie with no issue. He is fine with older children, can become excited around younger ones.

I was told Stitch had bitten a stranger who had attempted to talk to the owner whilst she waiting for a taxi. I was told there was no warning given before the bite but also no damage to the man who was bitten. Then I found out that the dog has been trained in German commands, so possibly an incomplete command.

Stitch is a young, healthy and highly focused dog, in the right hands he will be amazing. There are no significant trainer or behaviour issues here.”

Can you give Stitch a new start please?

Stitch has been rehomed by his owner.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
