This beautiful girl, Gracie, has been through such a lot in her short life. This was her original write up as a young pup:

“Well, what can we say about these gorgeous bundles of fluff. Ivy and Lilly were born 15th October and came into our care with their mum, Luna. Their full story can be found on Mum’s link:

http://gsrelite.co.uk/luna-13/

These pups have thrived and although we have no idea who dad was, they certainly seem to be GSD’s at this stage.

Pups are microchipped and vaccinated and are typical for their age. House training is a work in progress but they are picking up quick. Respect the older dogs in their foster home.

Ivy and Lilly will need homes where there is someone around most of the time and would benefit from the company of an older dog to show them the way in life.

Special homes for these special pups.”

Ivy, renamed Gracie, was adopted when it was quickly discovered she had internal birth defects relating to her bladder which meant she ‘leaked’ and it was apparent she would have recurring UTI’s where urine was pooling inside her in the wrong places. After a failed attempt with one ‘specialist’ her adopter’s decided they could not cope anymore with the leaking and the unknown, Gracie came back to her foster mum the beginning of February.

Gracie was now being seen by Aura Vets and a plan was formed but it meant she could not have surgery until she was 6 months of age so she could be spayed at the same time as this part of her anatomy was not right either and causing some of the problems. This meant keeping her free of infection until she finally had surgery mid May. Gracie then spent 3 weeks at the vets where she had 2 surgeries to rectify her internal issues. There was always a risk surgery may not be completely successful but there were no other options apart from the one we could not consider for such a beautiful young pup.

It was then a long road to recovery, keeping a 6 month old quiet and on lead while stitches healed, various medications and constant monitoring while she learnt to use her new bladder. Gracie recovered well and was weaned off all her medications and when the final urine sample was given the all clear, we knew it was time for Gracie to have a home of her own where she could concentrate on being a young pup. You could not tell she ever had a problem now unless you knew.

Gracie is an amazing girl, who smiled through everything, took it all in her stride and was always full of energy and zest. A very intelligent young lady who can wrap everyone, including her doggie foster family around her paws. All the vets and medical staff loved Gracie and she loved them.

Gracie has been adopted.

Why we do what we do

German Shepherd Rescue Elite was not only set up to help as many unwanted, abandoned and neglected German Shepherds as possible, but to also offer education to the general public on the responsibilities / pros / cons of owning a large working breed dog and to be able to offer help and advice so hopefully we can become the prevention for once instead of always being the cure.
